Kent Show 2007 - Two Shear Ram Winner
The Petham Romney Flock (flock no. 565), of JSB Phillips, is an elite flock producing high quality Romney breeding stock, it is located in Petham just south of Canterbury, Kent.
It was established in 2004 with foundation stock being selected from well known and highly regarded Romney breeders. The initial nucleus was a selection of strong robust ewes from Trevor Richards, Lacton flock (no.406). Prolific ewes from Hugh and Pauline Skinner, Aragon flock (no.462) and high quality ewes from Graham Palmer, Starvenden flock (no. 527) and John Cole, Moatmill flock (no.521). The blending of these bloodlines and high selection pressure has further enhanced the initial selections. We have recently added to our breeding flock with an input of ewe tegs from the Westwell flock (no.82) of George Horne Esq. bringing with them some of the oldest recorded Romney bloodlines in the world.
Rams have been secured from: Gordon Wimble, Norwood flock (no.528) which are renowned for their sound structure and placid temperament. Additionally, a large framed ram from Andrew Barr and Sons, Pivington flock (no.297) was selected to complement the foundation ewes.
We apply realistic commercial pressure to our flock breeding program. We expect them to perform with the minimum of management inputs, this gives us the confidence that they will perform under most conditions and situations. It is our aim to provide quality Romney breeding stock for the discerning pedigree or commercial breeder.
